Afghan Client Receives Asylum!

Congratulations to our client M.S. from Afghanistan who recently received asylum from USCIS!

M.S. and his brother were evacuated from Kabul following the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan on August 15, 2021. After processing on U.S. military bases abroad and on the continent, M.S. and his brother came to Hawai’i to obtain degrees in the University of Hawai’i system. Their asylum cases were processed through Operation Allies Welcome, a massive governmental effort to regularize the immigration statuses of the nearly 80,000 Afghan allies evacuated to the United States following the war.

Mahalo to Prof. Egan for working on the initial filing, attorney Kara Teng ’17 for helping prepare them for their interviews, Prof. Yoo for attending their interviews, and RILC students for assisting with legal research.

We are thankful to have played a part in their sojourn and to have them become a part of our community!
